history

Until the 19th century

The history of Weßling goes back to the Bavarian conquest of the land. After the departure of the Romans , who since 15th BC When legions had moved across the Alps and brought their culture with them, the now abandoned but by no means depopulated country sank into the darkness of history for almost a century. It was not until the middle of the 6th century that the Bavarians took possession of the land between Enns and an area off the Lechrain . At least since then, one can speak of a continuous settlement.

Weßling is an old parish. In the Middle Ages , Weßling initially belonged to the Andechs bailiwick of Neufahrn; this had its seat in Mamhofen . After the end of the Andechs in 1248, the village of Weßling came under the rule of Seefeld . The 19th century brought major changes in the political structure and with it a change in ownership. In 1848 the court brands were dissolved , including that of Seefeld, so that Weßling now belongs to the Starnberg district court.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Hochstadt was incorporated. On January 1, 1976, Oberpfaffenhofen was added.

traffic

Weßling station

The length of all roads in the municipality as of 2019 is a total of 99.5 kilometers, 57 km of which are field and forest paths.

Weßling is accessible via the A 96 motorway with the Wörthsee and Oberpfaffenhofen exits . The municipality, which is well connected by traffic, is still heavily burdened by through traffic, especially from the A 96 to the Ammersee. The bypass, construction start in January 2015, completion on November 28, 2016, was only partially successful. With the release of traffic on the bypass road, the main road was downgraded to the municipal road up to the confluence with Gautinger Strasse. In addition, the attractiveness of the transit, especially for trucks in pure through traffic, was initially reduced by obstacles, then by traffic law measures (decision in Feb. 2018, final implementation in Oct. 2018).

In 1903, the Royal Bavarian State Railways opened the Pasing – Herrsching line with the Weßling station . The station has been connected to the Munich S-Bahn network since 1972 . The S8 line runs from Herrsching to Munich Airport . Weßling is integrated into the Munich transport and tariff association . Bus lines connect the place with Stegen , Herrsching , Seefeld , Gilching , Starnberg and Munich.

tourism

The community markets itself as an "artist village" and refers to a long list of painters (including Pierre-Auguste Renoir ) who have visited the lake. The sculptures standing on the lakeshore come from a sculpting competition.
