location

The village is located 2 km northeast of Weßling on the Pasing – Herrsching railway line .

history

In 1184 the place was first mentioned in writing as Wihselbovmen in the documents of the Schäftlarn monastery . In 1800 the Weichselbaum settlement had six inhabitants.

In the immediate vicinity, the Dornier company built an airfield , which was put into operation in 1936. In the same year Max Dieckmann founded the Aeronautical Radio Research Institute (FFO) on the north-western edge of the airfield , which was completed in the spring of 1937 and went into operation on October 1, 1937. Today's German Aerospace Center ( DLR ) emerged from this facility .

In 1936, the Deutsche Reichsbahn opened the Weichselbaum stop on the Pasing – Herrsching line. At first it was used exclusively for rush hour traffic to the Dornier works, but was opened to general traffic in 1944. In the course of expanding the line for the Munich S-Bahn , the Deutsche Bundesbahn shut down the station on May 1, 1972 and replaced it with the new Neugilching station one kilometer to the northeast.

During the Second World War , the airfield was the target of six bombing raids in 1944. After the war, the American crew set up the “Air-Depot Obii” in 1946 . During the Berlin Airlift from June 1948 to May 1949, the airfield played an important role in maintaining and repairing the raisin bombers .

A district of the municipality of Oberpfaffenhofen until the municipal reform , Weichselbaum was incorporated into Weßling on January 1, 1976.
