The community-free area Starnberger See is located in Upper Bavaria .

The 56.88 km² area includes the eponymous Starnberger See , is assigned to the Starnberg district and borders on the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen districts in the east and Weilheim-Schongau in the south.

The only island in Lake Starnberg, the approximately 2.5 hectare Rose Island located off the west coast of Feldafing , is not part of the community-free area, but belongs to the community of Feldafing.

The following municipalities have a share of the lake shore and thus border on the municipality-free area (clockwise, starting in the north):

  1. Starnberg (north, district of Starnberg)
  2. Berg (northeast, Starnberg district) with the districts of Kempfenhausen, Berg and Leoni
  3. Münsing (southeast, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district) with the districts Ammerland , Ambach , Sankt Heinrich and Seeheim
  4. Seeshaupt (south, Weilheim-Schongau district) and the Seeseiten district
  5. Bernried (southwest, Weilheim-Schongau district)
  6. Tutzing (west, Starnberg district) and the Unterzeismering district
  7. Feldafing (northwest, Starnberg district) and the Garatshausen district
  8. Pöcking (northwest, district of Starnberg) with the districts of Possenhofen and Niederpöcking
