Bernried am Starnberger See is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau .
geography
Bernried is located in the Oberland region on a slight slope on the west bank of Lake Starnberg . The Hausstätter Weiher is located nearby .
The municipality has seven officially named municipality parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):

history
Until the church is planted
Otto and Adelheid von Valley had established a canon monastery in Bernried in 1120. Since 1330 the place was part of a closed Hofmark of the monastery Bernried, which was dissolved around 1803 .
In 1818, as part of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , Bernried became an independent political municipality that belonged to the Weilheim district court .
20th and 21st centuries
The monastery was transformed into a Renaissance style castle. The Mission Benedictine Sisters von Tutzing acquired it in 1949 and used it as a novitiate or today as an educational center.
As an artistic community, Bernried attracted a number of artists. In 1998 the “ Buchheim Museum of Fantasy ” was built in the Hirschgarten area in Höhenried , which has been a major attraction for visitors from all over the world since 1999.
Since January 1, 2007, the community has had the suffix “am Starnberger See”.
Incorporations
On May 1, 1978, parts of the area of the dissolved municipality of Haunshofen were incorporated.

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 1,684 to 2,348 by 664 inhabitants or 39.4%.

mayor
The currently incumbent mayor is Georg Malterer (non-partisan Free Voting Group). In 2020 he succeeded Josef Steigenberger (non-partisan Free Voting Group), who had been in office since 2002.
Parish partnership
Since 1991 there has been a partnership between the municipality of Bernried and the French municipality of Samoreau , Département Seine-et-Marne (near Fontainebleau , approx. 50 km south of Paris ). The two mayors Excoffon and Eberl signed the partnership certificate in Bernried on July 27, 1991 and inaugurated the Samoreau promenade on the lakeshore. There is a regular exchange between the two communities.

Economy and Infrastructure
Economy including agriculture and forestry
In 1998 there were 28 in the field of agriculture and forestry, in the manufacturing industry 70 and in the field of trade and transport twelve employees subject to social insurance contributions at the place of work. In other economic areas, 478 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 692 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was one company in the manufacturing sector and five companies in the main construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were twelve agricultural holdings with an agricultural area of 400 ha. Of this, 51 ha were arable land and 348 ha were permanent green areas. In the south of Bernried, areas were designated for commercial operations from 1990 onwards. In addition to traditional craft businesses, several high-tech businesses have settled here. Around seven percent of the biotechnology jobs in the greater Munich area are located in the Bernried industrial park.
The municipality's largest employer is the Höhenried Rehabilitation Clinic of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bayern Süd , which specializes in cardiovascular diseases, orthopedics and psychosomatic medicine. The structural nucleus of the clinic is Höhenried Castle .

Bernried is on the state road 2063 Starnberg – Tutzing – Seeshaupt and on the Kochelseebahn (Munich–) Tutzing – Kochel. It is approached by the RVO bus 9614 Tutzing – Penzberg. There is also a landing stage for the Bayerische Seenschifffahrt .
education
In 2011 there were the following institutions:
