Herbert Werner Constantin Seibt (born February 20, 1966 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a Swiss journalist and author .

Life

Seibt was born in Frankfurt am Main, his parents were German. When he was two years old, the family moved to Switzerland. Seibt later took on Swiss citizenship . Seibt grew up in Bassersdorf and attended the Rychenberg Cantonal School in Winterthur . This was followed by German studies at the University of Zurich , which he dropped out. In the parliamentary elections in 1999 and 2003 Seibt ran on the alternative list for the National Council , but was not elected.

Seibt has a daughter (* 2009) and another child and lives in Zurich .

journalism

Seibt was an editor and columnist at the university newspaper Zürcher StudentIn , published a crime thriller and worked as a freelance journalist, for example for the advertising week and with his very short story column for Basler Magazin . He also wrote a column on falsification of literature in the NZZ Folio .

From 1997 to 2005 Seibt was an editor for politics and economics and a columnist at WOZ Die Wochenzeitung . At the beginning he mainly wrote columns like the “ Monster Family ” and articles for the cultural section. Great attention was paid to his article on the Toywar known litigation to domain names . From 2001 he was part of the domestic editorial team, where he played an increasingly important role. Between September 2004 and December 2005 he wrote columns for Weltwoche on a regular basis .

In January 2006 he switched to the Tages-Anzeiger . One of his first topics as a reporter for the Tages-Anzeiger was the judicial processing of the Swissair grounding. The collected articles were published in 2007 in book form as “ The Swissair process ”. Seibt's mostly economic-political comments and analyzes regularly made waves in the online commentary columns, for example his analysis " The Right Farewell to Politics ", written in August 2011 , where Seibt received the criticism of capitalism by the conservative Charles Moore .

From May 2012 to July 2014, Seibt wrote for his blog called Deadline on tagesanzeiger.ch/ Newsnet on the subject of “ Journalism in the 21st Century”. Some of the articles were published in book form in November 2013 under the title Deadline - How to write better .

At the end of 2016, Seibt left the Tages-Anzeiger in order to a. with Christof Moser from Switzerland am Sonntag , who also gave up his position as Bundeshaus editor to work for his own start-up Republic . On May 13, 2017, the crowdfunding campaign for the partial financing of the media project “Project R” was launched and, according to Swiss campaign experts, beat all the crowdfunding records previously known in Switzerland within 24 hours, so that the republic on the same Day could be officially founded. The online magazine Republik was launched in 2018.
