Gesa Schneider

Gesa Schneider (* 1973 in Bonn ) is a German literary scholar , curator and presenter . She is the director of the Literaturhaus Zürich and a board member of the Museum Strauhof .

life and work

Gesa Schneider grew up in Bonn, Campinas, Berlin, Neuchâtel and Lausanne. She studied German , Romance languages , philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Lausanne , Free University of Berlin and University of Zurich . In 2006 she did her doctorate with Christiaan L. Hart Nibbrig with a thesis on Franz Kafka and photography.

She was a longstanding columnist for PS from 1999 to 2006. Between 2002 and 2003 she taught German language and literature at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor . From 2006 to 2013 she worked at Martin Heller and "Heller Enterprises", where she developed and implemented numerous exhibitions and art projects at the interfaces of culture, business and urbanism as a project manager. a. the exhibition We Managers! and the interdisciplinary art project Sound Development City . Between 2007 and 2013 she was also a lecturer for image theory at the F + F School for Art and Design .

Gesa Schneider has been the director of the Literaturhaus Zürich since 2013. As the person responsible for the Writers in Residence project, she invited u. a. Teju Cole , Xiaolu Guo , Ken Bugul , Viktor Martynowitsch, Hernan Ronsino to Switzerland. After she and her team won the tender to manage the Strauhof , she was co-director of the Museum Strauhof from 2015 to 2019 together with Rémi Jaccard. In addition, together with Andreas Heusser and Corina Freudiger, she is responsible for the program of the Openair Literature Festival Zurich . Gesa Schneider appears as a presenter of live events and has moderated talks and readings since 2013 (with Lukas Bärfuss , Juli Zeh , Jenny Erpenbeck , Marlene Streeruwitz , Edouard Louis , Carolin Emcke, among others ).
