Paula Scheidt

Paula Scheidt (* 1982 in Bremen ) is a German-Swiss journalist and recipient of the German Reporter Award and the Zurich Journalist Award .

Life

Paula Scheidt grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau . She completed a master's degree in political science, economics and social psychology at the University of Zurich .

Between her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, she attended the Berlin School of Journalism . In 2009 she received the context research grant for research on student life at Isfahan University in Iran . At the Axel Springer Prize 2010, as a member of the “Wahlfahrt 09” team, she received an award for “outstanding performance” in the Internet category for reporting on the election campaign leading up to the 2009 German Bundestag election .

Paula Scheidt wrote as a freelance journalist for Die Zeit , Die Tageszeitung , Das Magazin and Neon, among others . From 2011 to 2013 she was the editor of the factory newspaper for the Rote Fabrik cultural center . From 2013 to 2014 she was an editor at NZZ Campus and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . She has been an editorial staff member since 2014 and editor at Das Magazin since 2018 .

She received the German Reporter Award 2014 in the category “Best Freelance Reporter” for her report “Der Zapfenstreit”, published in Die Zeit , about the Nordmann firs trade. For her report Swiss Family about a young Afghan refugee, published in Das Magazin , she was awarded the Zurich Journalist Prize in 2016 . The Real21 association awarded her the real21 media prize in 2018. The award honors her report War or Peace , published in Das Magazin , about an Indonesian Koran school in Java , which is run by a woman.

Paula Scheidt was one of the 300 first signatories of “ Pro Quote ”, an initiative to promote professional equality for women in media professions. In 2014 she co-founded the Reporter Forum Switzerland , which has been awarding the Swiss Reporter Award every year since 2018. She was a member of the jury for the Swiss Reporter Prize 2018. Since 2017 she has been a lecturer at Zeppelin University and since 2018 at the Swiss journalism school MAZ .

The German-Swiss dual citizen lives in Zurich .
