Irena Brežná

Irena Brežná (born February 26, 1950 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak - Swiss writer and journalist .

Life

Irena Brežná grew up in Trenčín and graduated from high school in Bratislava. After the crackdown on the Prague Spring , her parents emigrated with her to Switzerland in 1968. In 1975 she completed her studies in Slavic Studies , Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Basel in Switzerland . She then worked as an interpreter for Swiss authorities looking after migrants, as a Russian teacher and at psychological research institutes in Basel and Munich . At the same time, she was involved with Amnesty International and as a women's rights activist in several projects in Guinea, Eastern Europe and Chechnya .
