Gottlieb F. Höpli
Gottlieb F. Höpli (* 1943) is a Swiss journalist . From 1994 to 2009 he was editor-in-chief of the St. Galler Tagblatt .
Life
Höpli attended schools in Wängi and graduated from the Frauenfeld grammar school. From 1963 to 1968 he studied German, a. a. with Emil Staiger , journalism and sociology at the Universities of Zurich and the Free University of Berlin .
From 1969 he was a journalist and correspondent for various Swiss daily newspapers and SRG television in Zurich . Between 1978 and 1994 he worked as a domestic political editor for the NZZ .
From 1989 to 1997 he was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Dispatch Agency .
In 1994 he was appointed editor-in-chief of the St. Galler Tagblatt (circulation 120,000), which is majority-owned by the NZZ, and in 1999 he became a member of the management of the Tagblatt Medien (with newspapers, television and radio stations and other print media). In 2009 he was replaced by Philipp Landmark after his retirement .
Höpli is a lecturer in media design at the University of St. Gallen and President of the Swiss Committee of the International Press Institute (IPI), a long-time delegate of Switzerland to the Liberal World Union (Liberal International) and, until the end of 2013, President of the Media Criticism Switzerland Association founded in 2009.
A selection of the texts he wrote for the St. Galler Tagblatt was published in book form in 2010 under the title Today no football . Höpli is also a columnist for the liberal authors and debates magazine Swiss Month .
Höpli lives in Teufen near St. Gallen in Appenzell , is married and has three daughters.
