Bernard Imhasly

Bernard Imhasly (born May 21, 1946 in Sierre , Canton of Valais ) is a Swiss linguist , diplomat , journalist and publicist .

Life

Imhasly attended the monastery school in Einsiedeln and, after graduating from high school, studied linguistics and anthropology at the University of Zurich from 1966 to 1972 . In 1972 he was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate, 1972/73 he stayed in Bangladesh for research purposes . From 1973 to 1978 he was a lecturer in linguistics at the University of Zurich.

In 1978 he joined the Swiss diplomatic service of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs . a. in Geneva, London, Bern and New Delhi. In 1990 he switched to business consulting and then to journalism. From 1991 to 2007 he was the South Asia correspondent for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . He published a. a. in the taz , the Handelsblatt and the press .

Imhasly is married with one daughter and has lived in India since 1984 .
