Felix E. Muller

Felix E. Müller (born May 3, 1951 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss journalist and former handball player . From March 2002 to the end of September 2017 he was editor-in-chief of NZZ am Sonntag and a member of the extended management team of the NZZ media group .

Life

After graduating from the Rychenberg grammar school in Winterthur, Müller studied German, musicology and mathematics at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1976 with a licentiate. In 1978 he was with a dissertation on newer Swiss literature doctorate . From 1973 to 1978 he worked as a teacher at high schools in Winterthur and Zurich.

As a handball player, Müller played with Yellow Winterthur in the Swiss national handball league from 1972 to 1977 .

In 1978 he began his journalistic career as an editor at Züri Leu in Zurich, where he became deputy editor-in-chief in 1981. After Jean Frey AG sold the newspaper to Tamedia and subsequently hired it in 1982, Müller switched to Weltwoche . There he was cultural editor, head of the domestic department, USA correspondent in Washington, deputy editor-in-chief and from 1996 to 1997 he was a senior editor. i. active. In 1997 he moved to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , where he was initially an author, then from 2000 head of the “City and Canton of Zurich” department. In 2001 he did full-time concept work for the NZZ am Sonntag , of which he became editor-in-chief when it was launched in March 2002. Since 2015 he has also been Head of Magazine at NZZ and a member of the management board of the NZZ media group.

In 1984 he received the award for cultural merit of the canton of Zurich for a biography and for contributing to the complete edition of the works of Albin Zollinger . In 2016 he was awarded the Zurich Journalist Prize for his complete work. From 1986 to 1988 he was a member of the literature commission of the city of Zurich , from 2005 to 2016 guild master of the Fluntern guild . Since 2006 he has been President of the Board of Trustees of the Free Evangelical School Zurich.

He and his wife became an eyewitness to the 1997 attack in Luxor , Egypt , in which several dozen foreign tourists were killed by Islamists .

Felix E. Müller is married to Franziska Widmer. He has three grown daughters and lives in Zurich.
