Life

Signature 1928

The son of a goldsmith , watchmaker and hunter Meinrad Ingle had from the age of 17 as an orphan beat through life. After a few years of school at the Kollegi in Schwyz , he tried his hand at a watchmaker and waiter training , but later returned to the grammar school , where he tried in vain to catch up with his degree. Despite not having a Matura , he began to study literary history and psychology in Bern , Geneva and Neuchâtel . After that he worked as a newspaper editor for a while.

During the First and Second World Wars he served as an officer in the border service. In 1922 he worked as a journalist in Berlin for a year before settling down as a freelance writer in his birthplace.

Inglin became known as the author of realistic novels , which were praised for their subtle representation and mostly portrayed everyday Swiss life by contrasting the unspoilt peasantry with a rootless and soulless civilization . Since he always reveals the psychological background of the actors, his works go far beyond the local poetry .
