Frank André Meyer (born January 6, 1944 in Biel ), often abbreviated as FAM and usually as Frank A. Meyer in his own appearance , is a Swiss journalist and journalistic advisor to Ringier .

Life

Growing up in the bilingual town of Biel as the son of a watchmaker , Meyer trained as a typesetter. From 1968 to 1980 he was involved in Mario Cortesi's media company in his hometown of Biel as a partner and was “involved in local politics as an alternative‹ free citizen ›” (from 1976 to 1980 as a member of the city parliament).

In 1972 he began his journalistic work for the Ringier media company , initially as a federal correspondent for Schweizer Illustrierte . In 1978 he co-founded the bilingual weekly newspaper Biel Bienne . In 1981 he became a member of the editor-in-chief, later editor-in-chief of the Bern editorial office of the newly founded Woche - its circulation slumped from 44,000 to 14,000 copies within a year, and it was discontinued in 1982 - and started working as a columnist for the SonntagsBlicks . He later became journalistic advisor to publisher Michael Ringier .

Since 1985 he has been a member of the executive board of Ringier AG and since 1989 lecturer in media management at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). Meyer was also the presenter of the program Vis-à-vis at 3sat (until the end of 2016) and writes for numerous newspapers and magazines, including for the Zürcher Woche , the Basler Zeitung and the magazine Cicero . He is considered to be the inspirer of the left-liberal course of the Blick and is the "chief columnist" of SonntagsBlick and (formerly) Schweizer Illustrierte .

Frank A. Meyer has lived in Berlin with his wife, the German cultural journalist Lilith Frey, for 15 years .

In the 1999 Federal Council elections (on the occasion of Pascal Couchepin's re-election ), Meyer received 19 of 245 votes. In 2014 he was awarded the Zurich Journalism Prize. On September 17, 2018, he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , the Federal Cross of Merit .
