The Philosophical Quartet was a bi-monthly cultural talk show on the Second German Television (ZDF). The title and concept are based on “ The Literary Quartet ”, also a broadcast by ZDF. Each program was hosted by the two philosophers Peter Sloterdijk and Rüdiger Safranski , who discussed fundamental issues of our society (according to their own definition) with two other - always changing - interlocutors .

On March 26, 2012 it was announced that the format will be saying goodbye from May 2012 after ten years. On May 13, 2012, the program was stopped by instructions from the artistic director Thomas Bellut . The broadcast nachtstudio with a similar format was also discontinued in 2012. In autumn 2012 the program Precht started as the successor to the Philosophical Quartet .

broadcast

Each broadcast was 60 minutes long and recorded in front of an audience and broadcast later that evening. At the end of each program, the two hosts recommended books on the subject.

Guests

The Philosophical Quartet had well-known guests; some were invited several times.
