Mario Cortesi (born November 22, 1940 in Biel ; legal resident in Diessenhofen ) is a Swiss journalist , publisher , non-fiction author and film director.

Mario Cortesi is the managing director of the Cortesi office in Biel, which was founded on September 20, 1965 as the first independent media office in Switzerland and today has 35 employees. The Cortesi office publishes the weekly free newspaper Biel Bienne (circulation 109,000 copies). It is also co-founder and co-owner of the bilingual regional broadcaster TeleBielingue and partner in the bilingual Radio Canal 3 in Biel.

For eight years (until 2008), Mario Cortesi wrote a weekly film review as a guest author in the largest Swiss newspaper, Blick . From 2004 to 2010 he produced a monthly animal broadcast (“Hund, Katz etc”) for all local television in western Switzerland. Every week he presents the latest films on TeleBielingue as a presenter.

His film “Yesterday When I Was Young” was awarded the Prix Jeunesse International. His television series “Peppino” about a son of Italian guest workers became best known. The documentary “The Scent of the Big Wide World”, which addresses the dangers of tobacco consumption, received various international film awards, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and ICRC awards . Cortesi's commissioned and image films received a total of more than 70 international awards.

Mario Cortesi is on the nomination jury of the Prix ​​Walo and was on the jury of the Swiss Press Award until 2015 , most recently as president of the TV jury.
