Max Bolliger

Max Bolliger (born April 23, 1929 in Schwanden , Canton Glarus ; † February 10, 2013 in Zurich ; resident in Schlossrued ) was a Swiss writer and children's book author.

Life

After his training as a teacher and a few years of teaching at village schools, he studied curative education and psychology . He then worked as a curative teacher in Luxembourg and for ten years as a special school teacher in Adliswil near Zurich .

From 1969 Bolliger was a freelance writer . He worked for Swiss television (children's program Spielhaus ) until 1994 and was a lecturer for youth literature at the cantonal primary school teacher seminar in Zurich.

In March 2013 it became known that Max Bolliger had died in February at the age of 83. At the beginning of the year he had to go to hospital for pneumonia . Most recently he lived in Weesen in the canton of St. Gallen .

Works

In literary terms, the author first appeared in the early 1950s with poems and stories for adults. He soon switched to children's and youth books.

Max Bolliger was one of the best known and most successful children's book authors in Switzerland. Two focal points can be identified in his work: on the one hand there are the short stories, which often serve as picture book texts, on the other hand the author placed particular emphasis on retelling biblical texts.

Max Bolliger published over 50 books in his life, which have been translated into 20 languages. He won all the major youth book awards.
