Catholic children's and youth book award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Catholic Children's and Young People's Book Prize (formerly the Catholic Children's Book Prize ) is a literary prize that has been awarded by the German Bishops' Conference since 1979 and is endowed with a total of 5000 euros, which may be distributed between the author and the translator (as of 2020).

Establishment : The idea came from the writer Willi Fährmann , who asked Bishop Heinrich Tenhumberg to emphasize the importance of children's and youth literature. In 1979 it was still called the Catholic Children's Book Prize , but in 1995 it was expanded to include the Catholic Children's and Youth Book Prize .

Modalities : The award is given to German-language books that convey religious experiences in an exemplary manner and in accordance with their age, develop religious knowledge and illustrate Christian attitudes towards life. Since 1997, the winners have been presented with a bronze statuette, "The Reader".
