Guus Kuijer (2012)

Guus Kuijer (born August 1, 1942 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch writer .

Life

After he had to repeat a class three times in elementary school, Guus Kuijer went to boarding school in Zutphen . He then completed a teacher training course in Doetinchem . From 1967 to 1973 Kuijer taught at an elementary school. He began writing as a teacher and published one novel and two short stories, all three of which were aimed at adults. Since 1975 he has primarily turned to children and has now published over 30 books for children and young people .

Kuijer is one of the most distinguished and most awarded authors in the Netherlands. Among other things, the five-volume series about Polleke, who was eleven in the first volume, is very successful, and the 2003 film Polleke was honored with several international prizes.

In Germany, Kuijer was awarded the German Youth Literature Prize in 1982 and 2002 . With Das Buch von allen Dingen , also nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2007, he received the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize for books for children and young people .

Guus Kuijer is married and lives on a farm.
