Institute for Youth Literature

The Institute for Youth Literature in Vienna , founded in 1965 as a non-profit organization, is a service, documentation and communication center for all areas of children's and youth literature , literature mediation and reading promotion.

The main focuses of the Institute for Youth Literature are:

  • Continuing education and training for intermediaries (those with a professional interest in children's and youth literature) through lectures and workshops
  • Target group-specific book recommendations (e.g. on LehrerinnenWEB , monthly tips for young people's books in the Ö1 book program Ex libris )
  • Elaboration and transfer of information (databases and document delivery) from Austria's largest specialist library on children's and young people's literature, reading research and reading promotion
  • Literature mediation projects, e.g. B. Literature for young readers (Vienna's largest children's literature festival ) or Reading in the Park (extracurricular reading promotion initiative as part of the Vienna Holiday Game)
  • Promotion of young writers and illustrators, e. B. DIXI Children's Literature Prize , writing time for young audiences , manuscript service (review of not yet published texts)
  • International network formation, e.g. B. national representation in the global organization IBBY , coordination of and participation in EU projects

The institute is the media owner and editor-in-chief of 1000 und 1 Buch. The magazine for children's and young people's literature that appears four times a year.
