Reinhard Kleist (born February 11, 1970 in Hürth ) is a German graphic designer and comic artist .

life and work

Kleist studied graphics and design at the Münster University of Applied Sciences . It was there that he made his albums Lovecraft , Dorian and, as a diploma thesis, The Adventure of a Switchman . After completing his studies, Kleist moved to Berlin . In 1996 he won the Max and Moritz Prize for the best German-language comic album ( Lovecraft ) at the International Comic Salon in Erlangen . From 2003 to 2008 he worked together with the author Tobias O. Meißner on the Berlinoir series , which was published by Edition 52 . In September 2006 his biography Cash - I See a Darkness about Johnny Cash was published by Carlsen Verlag . In 2007 he also presented another biography about rock legend Elvis Presley entitled Elvis , published by Ehapa . For a trip to Cuba in 2008 he learned Spanish and then drew and sketched street scenes of Havana , which he summarized in the 2009 cartoon band Havana . In 2011 Der Boxer appeared on the Jewish boxer Harry Haft , and in 2014 as a serial first in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Der Traum von Olympia. The story of Samia Yusuf Omar , and then in 2015 in Carlsen Verlag. Reinhard Kleist published two books about the Australian musician Nick Cave in 2017. Several of his graphic novels have also appeared in translations in English, French or Arabic.
