Elsa is a deserted place in the Yukon Territory in northwestern Canada .
It is located between Mayo and Keno Hill , around 400 km north of Whitehorse and 600 km east of the Alaska border . Elsa was always privately owned and managed by the mining companies that once processed silver , lead and zinc from the mines along the Silver Trail . When the United Keno Hill mine closed in 1989, Elsa was abandoned and most of the buildings demolished.
