Jürg Altwegg

Jürg Altwegg (born March 27, 1951 in Zurich ) is a Swiss author and journalist .

Life

Jürg Altwegg studied Romance languages , German and history at the University of Zurich and the Université de Genève . He was a correspondent for the Tages-Anzeiger , the Luzerner Neusten Nachrichten , the Basler Zeitung and the Zeit . He has written numerous radio features for Norddeutscher Rundfunk and Hessischer Rundfunk . He has been a permanent employee since the early 1980s and from 1988 to 2017 editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung based in Geneva (editorial abbreviation JA).

Altwegg reports on cultural events in the Romandie , the rest of Switzerland and France, and has written several books published on the philosophical and intellectual scene in France and Germany. Altwegg "[...] feels like a permanent border crosser between the German and Francophone world, but also between journalistic genres and departments". In 1994 he was awarded the prize of the Jubilee Foundation of the Swiss Bank Corporation as "... one of the most important mediators of French culture". Altwegg continues to write articles for the FAZ as its cultural correspondent (as of autumn 2018).

Altwegg lives near Geneva.
