Jürg Altwegg (politician)

Jürg Altwegg (* 1970 ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ) from Winterthur .

After an apprenticeship as a radio-TV electrician, Altwegg began studying at the Technikum Winterthur (TWI) (today: Zurich University of Applied Sciences ), from which he graduated as a qualified electrical engineer (qualified electrical engineer HTL ). Professionally, Altwegg is a project manager at the Winterthur housing cooperative Gesewo. Among other things, he managed their construction project for the multi-generation foundry in Winterthur in Neuhegi .

In 2002 he joined the Swiss Green Party. Since 2007 he has been a member of Winterthur's municipal council - initially as a successor. From 2007 to spring 2014 he was a member of the «Technical Commission for Construction and Operations», and since then he has been President of the «Technical Commission for Social Affairs and Security». Also until spring 2014 he worked as parliamentary group president of the Greens in the local council.

On November 17, 2014 - for the resigned Lilith Hübscher - he took over the seat in the Green parliamentary group in the Cantonal Council of Zurich for constituency XIV Winterthur City, but was unable to hold the seat in the new elections because the Greens have a seat in the Winterthur City constituency lost to the alternate list .

In the spring of 2017, he is running to replace his resigning party colleague Martin Gfeller for the Winterthur city council.
