Alice Vollenweider
Alice Vollenweider (born June 22, 1927 in Zurich ; † September 13, 2011 there ; entitled to live in Schönholzerswilen ) was a Swiss Romance writer , cookbook author and literary translator .
Life
Vollenweider studied Romance and German at the Universities of Zurich and Paris . She received her doctorate with a dissertation on the "Influence of Italian on French culinary art in the mirror of language" (published in 1963). She later studied Italian literature in Naples . As a result, her work came to focus on “cuisine and culinary art” and “ Italy ”; she has also translated Italian literature and edited anthologies .
For the magazine Annabelle answered it for over ten years to 2002 readers' questions about cooking in their cooking mailbox. A selection of the readers' questions and Vollenweider's answers was published as a book in 1996. She worked for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung as a restaurant tester and specialist in Italian literature. Her culinary correspondence with Hugo Loetscher in 1975 became legendary and was published as a book in 1976. Her books “Italy's Provinces and Their Cuisine” and “Cinderella’s Kitchen” became bestsellers .
Awards
- 1979: Conrad Ferdinand Meyer Prize (7,000 francs) "for her complete work as a translator and for the services she provided to the Romansh cultural area"
- 1991: Johann Jakob Bodmer Medal for services to the literary work of the City of Zurich
- 2000: Honorary gifts from the city of Zurich (6000 francs)
