Franco Sacchetti
Franco Sacchetti (* around 1330 in Ragusa , Croatia ; † 1400 in San Miniato , Province of Pisa ) was an Italian writer of the early Renaissance .
Life
Sacchetti was probably born in Ragusa and was the descendant of a noble Florentine merchant family and also belonged to the guild of money changers . As a well-traveled businessman and civil servant in Florence, Sacchetti was a direct witness of the blossoming of humanism and art , but also of the chaos of his era. Some of his writings were on religious , moral, and political matters. He wrote both prose and poetry. He wrote his poems in accordance with traditional contemporary forms. His most famous work, Trecentonovelle, contained entertaining novellas and was first printed in 1724. Among his works there is also an adaptation of the material about the fool Gonnella.
