Albert Berthold (born January 7, 1841 in Bayreuth ; † May 4, 1926 in Detmold ) was a German actor and theater director.

Live and act

Albert Berthold gave up a theology course he had initially started in order to turn to the theater. He appeared as an actor in Basel , Berlin , Leipzig and Munich . In 1877 he belonged to the Hanauer Theatergesellschaft as a director and actor. With this he came to Essen in the same year and founded his own ensemble there with a domicile in Rottstrasse in what is now the city ​​center . In the summer months he made guest appearances with this ensemble in Bad Oeynhausen , but kept returning to the Vaudeville Theater in Essen.

In 1892 Berthold became the first tenant and theater director at the newly built Essen City Theater, today's Grillo-Theater, for two years . Then he came to the Princely Court Theater in Detmold, which he led until his death in 1926 as Artistic Director , Artistic Director and Privy Artistic Director. There he received financial support from the heir to the throne, Ernst zur Lippe-Biesterfeld , who was interested in art .
