Ulf Reiher (born August 1, 1936 in Weimar ; † November 30, 2013 in Halle / Saale ) was a German theater director .

Career

Reiher studied at the theater college in the GDR. In 1967 he became director of the Senftenberg miners' theater and in 1972 took over the theater in Halle / Saale as the successor to Gerhard Wolfram. He was married to Gisela (chief dramaturge), Armin Mueller-Stahl's sister .

In 1977 he positioned himself as the only director against the expatriation of Wolf Biermann , which cost him his position. Since then, his sphere of activity as a director has been severely limited, so that in 1983 he asked Erich Honecker in a letter for a work permit for the FRG, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Hungary. Within days he got the passport and from then on commuted as a guest director between Halle and western German cities.

In 1987 he became the first GDR citizen to be the director of a West German three-part house , the Detmold State Theater . Theater heute reported: "Intendant Ulf Reiher receives 9,000 marks a month in this small three-part house (not a 13th salary) and about 50% of the highest director's fee, which is 10,000 marks (half in the studio theater)." He remained a GDR citizen because he hoped to return to the GDR one day and be able to work there again. After reunification he stayed at the Landestheater Detmold until his retirement in 2004. His successor was Kay Metzger after Heinz-Rudolf Müller was fired.
