history

The village is first mentioned in 978 as Cressianicum . Objects from the Bronze Age were found in the so-called Ladrital in 1874–1875 . In 978, Emperor Otto II (HRR) of the Abbey of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro of Pavia confirmed their possessions in Cresciano. In 1261 the village formed a vicinia ; it belonged to the Gastaldia of Claro TI . In 1355 and 1467 it was subordinated to the Podestà of Claro, but in 1333 it was ecclesiastically and civilly independent.

In 1356 the Archbishop of Milan , Giovanni Visconti , had the canons of Milan transfer the fief of Cresciano to his nephew Bernabò . On November 19, 1434, Duke Filippo Maria Visconti released Cresciano from his tax liability towards Bellinzona and granted him civil independence in 1450.
