  • On February 12, 2009, a Falcon 10/100 (VP-BAF) in Switzerland detected an incorrectly aligned landing at Samedan airfield while drifting away from the runway with the left wing parallel to the runway and 5 meters outside the runway Snow wall at a height of around 1.1 meters and, after the resulting rotation around the yaw axis, shortly afterwards hit the right side of the fuselage into the four meter high snow wall that was perpendicular to the runway next to the main taxiway to the parking areas. Both pilots died in the broken front section, the passenger survived injured. The Federal Office for Civil Aviation then ordered the airfield to be closed until the snow walls had been removed and commissioned a new snow removal concept. According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau , the main causes of the accident were errors by the pilots that had led to a landing that had started with the touchdown of the right wing on the left half of the runway. The approach took place in diffuse light and light snowfall after a waiting period due to ongoing snow removal work. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO , the permitted height of snow along the runway is 0.6 meters at a distance of 5 meters from the runway, ideally after the snow has been cleared.
