Michael Todd
Michael "Mike" Todd (born June 22, 1909 in Minneapolis , as Avrom Hirsch Goldbogen , † March 22, 1958 in Grants ) was an American film producer and a pioneer in the development of camera systems .
Life
The Todd-AO system is named after him, a further development of the Cinerama film system, which he developed together with the film technology company American Optical Company .
His lavish production around the world in 80 days had international success . The film adaptation of Jules Verne with David Niven , Cantinflas , Shirley MacLaine , Robert Newton and many guest appearances by well-known actors earned him the Oscar for best film in 1957 . The film company United Artists was responsible for film distribution.
Michael Todd was married to actresses Joan Blondell and Elizabeth Taylor . In 1958 he was killed together with the screenwriter Art Cohn and two pilots when his own plane "Lucky Liz" crashed due to overloading and icing.
