Kind of Cohn

Art Cohn (born April 5, 1909 in New York City , New York , † March 22, 1958 near Grants , New Mexico ) was an American sports journalist , screenwriter and writer .

Life

Born in New York City in 1909, Cohn grew up in Schenectady .

From 1927 he worked as a sports journalist for the Long Beach Press Telegram. From 1936 to 1943 he was with the Oakland Tribune. employed where he was responsible for the popular sports column, Cohn-ing Tower . He then worked as a war correspondent in the South Pacific.

In 1944 he married Marta Frank. After the war he worked for the New York Daily Mirror until 1948 . From 1949 he began his career as a screenwriter in Hollywood. In 1949 he wrote the script for the boxing film Ring for Stoker Thompson . Numerous other scripts and script collaborations followed.

In 1956 he was involved in the creation of Michael Todd 's film Around the World in 80 Days , on which he also published a book with Todd, Edward R. Murrow and Bill Doll . The film has won numerous awards, including five Academy Awards at the 1957 Academy Awards.

Cohn also wrote Todd's biography The Nine Lives of Mike Todd , which appeared in 1959. He was also planning a script for Don Quixote .

On March 22, 1958, however, Cohn was killed with Todd and two pilots in a plane crash in New Mexico. Todd's wife Elizabeth Taylor stayed home with a cold, contrary to the original plan.
