The Sanetsch Pass (French Col du Sénin , partly also Col du Sanetsch ) is 2252  m above sea level. M. high alpine pass in the western Bernese Alps .

location

The pass lies entirely in the canton of Valais , between the Diablerets massif in the west and the Wildhorn group in the east.

The pass connects the Rhone Valley in the area of Sion with the upper Saane Valley near Gsteig . In the area of the Sanetsch Pass is the headwaters of the Saane, which drains the area to the north. The Morge flows south . The top of the pass, covered by alpine pastures, is relatively wide, to the west the Lapis de Tsanfleuron cart fields join in the run-up to the Tsanfleuron glacier .

Reservoir

North of the pass is the Sanetsch high valley at 2000 to 2100  m . The Sanetschsee was dammed here. For the construction of the dam, a driveway was built over the Sanetsch Pass from the Valais side. The construction of a road from the nearby Gsteig would have been too expensive because of the difficult terrain on the north side. From today's end of the road, a mule track leads down to Gsteig. The Sanetschsee region with its chapel and mountain restaurant is also accessible from the Bernese side by a cable car . In summer there is also a daily post bus from Sion to the reservoir on the Valais side .
