The Sattelpass is a mountain pass and a mule track of the same name in the Swiss Alps on the border of the cantons of Lucerne and Obwalden . It connects Flühli in Entlebuch with Giswil - most of it in the Sarneraatal .
The pass was of economic importance until the 18th century. It was used to transport goods for regional exchange and long-distance trade in the direction of the Brünig Pass and the south. In the heyday of the glass industry in the wooded areas of Flühli from 1723 to 1837, a lot of Flühli glass was carried over the Sattelpass by hunters and glass carriers . After that, the transition over the Sattelpass was replaced by the Glaubberg and Glaubbielenstrasse and has been forgotten. A state pilgrimage from Entlebuch to Sachseln is said to have been carried out every year over the Sattelpass in the 19th century , which is why there are also stations on the pass path.
As part of the Giswil replenishment base , from autumn 1941 Polish , Italian and Soviet soldiers who had fled to Switzerland or who had fled to Switzerland built connecting roads over the heights into Entlebuch: Glaubbielenstrasse , the road to the Sattelpass, parts of the Höhenkarrweg Glaubbielen – Sattelpass – Glaubberg, the beginning of the new Kleinteiler Bergstrasse from Riedacher to Mettlen and Kilchwegstrasse in the majority .
