The saddle is a road pass in the canton of Schwyz . It is located on Hauptstrasse 8 , Pfäffikon - Schwyz section , between the villages of Sattel and Rothenthurm . The pass is at 932 m above sea level. M.
The saddle was probably used to access the Gotthard Pass as early as the 13th century . With the expansion of the road in 1860 and the commissioning of the Südostbahn (SOB) railway from Goldau to Rapperswil in 1891 , the saddle is one of the most important west-east connections from central Switzerland to eastern Switzerland. The pass has a maximum gradient of 7%.
