The Col des Mosses at Hauptstrasse 11 is 1445 m above sea level. M. high pass crossing in the Swiss canton of Vaud in the Vaudois pre-Alps , where the resort of Les Mosses is located.
geography
The wide pass separates the Mont d'Or in the west from the Pic Chaussy in the east. The pass forms the watershed between the Rhone and the Rhine . The Raverette , a side stream of the Grande Eau, drains from the Col des Mosses to the south . The Hongrin flows to the north ; However, the pass road does not follow the Hongrin Valley, but leads over another pass at La Lécherette directly into the Pays d'Enhaut .
history
An ax from the Bronze Age shows that the pass was used in prehistoric times. In 1475 a mule track was first mentioned in writing, which was used to transport salt from Bex. This was expanded into a road in the years 1868-69 and was expanded several times in the 20th century. A post bus connection has existed since the interwar period.
traffic
The regionally quite important pass road connects the Rhone Valley near Aigle with the Pays d'Enhaut near Château-d'Oex . The connection is also often used supraregionally to get from the Bernese Oberland to the Lower Valais . The road over the Col des Mosses was built in 1868, and from 1869 a horse mail course ran over the pass.
tourism
The resort of Les Mosses , which belongs to the political municipality of Ormont-Dessous , has developed over the course of time on the marshy heights of the pass . In winter the place is heavily frequented because of the numerous ski lifts on the eastern slope of Mont d'Or, in summer it is an ideal starting point for hikes.
