history

Like most of Menzingen, the Gottschalkenberg was originally owned by the Einsiedeln monastery . The managers of the homesteads and farmsteads were feudal people of the monastery. In the course of time they were able to acquire their homesteads and so went from tenants to owners. In the land register of Einsiedeln Monastery , a Jakob Gottschalk zu Finstersee “uf em Bergli” is mentioned among 550 owners of farms in the Zugerland for the year 1528, which is the first time the name was given.

In 1886 at the latest, an inn was opened on the promising Gottschalkenberg, which was popular with hikers, especially from the nearby whey health resort Hütten .
