The canton of Zug and its waters |
The Lorze is with an average water supply of about 7 m / s of the main flow of Canton train in Switzerland .
geography
The Lorze rises from the Ägerisee and flows first in a northerly, then in a westerly direction through the Lorzentobel , a deeply cut gorge spanned by the Lorzentobel bridge, and there it passes the Höllgrotten . At the exit of the ravine near Baar , the river turns south and flows into Lake Zug to the west of Zug . When Villette Park in Cham river exits the lake and flows in a northerly direction until it in Obfelden in the Reuss flows.
The length of the Lorze is around 17 kilometers between the Ägeriseausflow and the Zugersee, and around 10 kilometers between the Zugersee outflow and the confluence with the Reuss.
The Lorze is dammed at three points between the Zugersee and its confluence with the Reuss to generate hydropower: at the Untermühle hydropower plant in Cham , the Hagendorn hydropower plant in Cham and the Frauental hydropower plant in Frauental . In Baar in particular, the water power of the Lorze was used for the flourishing textile industry in the 19th century.
In the course of the construction of the A4a autobahn , the Lorze, which lay on the planned section of the autobahn, was relocated between Blickensdorf and Lake Zug. A new river bed was dug over a length of 3.8 kilometers and the river mouth was moved closer to the city of Zug. This improved the mixing of Lake Zug, since the inflow and outflow are now further apart. Furthermore, the higher transport volume of the New Lorze has since prevented floods that previously caused great damage in the Lorzen plain. The 180,000 cubic meters of excavation, which, consisting of fine sand, were not suitable for road construction, were used to build the Lorzeninsel in Lake Zug, which serves as a bird sanctuary. The project, completed in 1976, cost 30 million francs.
bridges
About 100 bridges cross the Lorze from the outflow from the Ägerisee to the confluence with the Reuss.
