Source and mouth of the Wyna

The Wyna is a 32 kilometer long river in the Swiss cantons of Lucerne and Aargau . It flows for almost its entire length in a south-north direction. The most important places in the Wynental are Menziken , Reinach and Gränichen . As usual in Swiss German , the y is pronounced as a long i .
course
The river is recorded as Wyna from the village of Neudorf . Various large and small streams converge there. After around nine kilometers, the canton border is crossed between Beromünster and Menziken . North of Suhr the Wyna flows into the Suhre at an altitude of 385 meters ; this in turn joins the Aare three kilometers further north .
The Wyna mostly flows freely and has a winding course in places. Some significant sections have been straightened to prevent flooding. These are the upper reaches of Neudorf (3 km), the passage through the villages of Menziken and Reinach (2.5 km), the Gontenschwiler Moos (a former swamp area, 3 km) and the section between Unterkulm and Teufenthal (2 km) ). In addition, a retention system was built at Beromünster, which is supposed to transfer the water masses dosed to the Wyna in the event of a flood.
