Source and mouth of the Murg

The Murg is a 34 km long tributary of the Thur in Switzerland and flows through the Murg Valley . It rises in the canton of St. Gallen near Schlattberg above Mühlrüti , flows through the canton of Thurgau and flows into the Thur at Warth near Frauenfeld . Along with Necker , Sitter and Glatt , the Murg is one of the most important tributaries of the Thur.

Tributaries of the Murg

The Lützelmurg and the Leek flow into the Murg in Matzingen. The Tuenbach joins the Leek shortly before it flows into the Murg.

Communities on the course of the Murg

The following communities lie on the banks of the Murg from the source to the mouth: Mosnang , Kirchberg , Fischingen , Sirnach , Münchwilen , Wängi , Stettfurt , Matzingen and Frauenfeld . Frauenfeld used to be on the right bank of the Murg. Due to the brisk construction activity in the last few centuries, the Murg now flows through the city, which led to the construction of numerous small bridges.

Economy and Transport

The Murg once drove numerous mills , including the Matzingen mill. From around 1830 new textile factories settled in Sirnach , Münchwilen , Rosental , Wängi , Jakobstal , Matzingen, Murkart and Frauenfeld and used the water power of the Murg.

The Frauenfeld-Wil train from Wil to Frauenfeld runs from Münchwilen along the Murg valley.

bridges

On its way the Murg is spanned by over 70 bridges. A third of them are in Frauenfeld.

Way of St. James

The Swiss Way of St. James , also known as the "Swabian Way ", runs partly along the Murg, especially in Münchwilen , Sirnach to Fischingen .
