Mühlrüti is a village in the municipality of Mosnang in Toggenburg on the north-western border of the canton of St. Gallen with around 400 inhabitants. Mühlrüti has its own Catholic parish and a primary school . The landmark is the baroque St. Joseph's Church, completed in 1766 .
location
Mühlrüti is the starting point of the road connections to Fischingen , Kirchberg , Mosnang and Hulftegg. The 7 km long Hulfteggstrasse leading to Steg in the Tösstal is largely in the Mühlrütner area. The village is accessed by the Bütschwil –Mosnang – Hulftegg post bus line, from where hiking trails lead towards the Schnebelhorn and Hörnli .
history
In the 15th century the lower jurisdiction lay partly with the Counts of Toggenburg and partly with the rule of Tannegg of the Diocese of Constance. The rights of the Counts of Toggenburg came in 1468 at the St. Gallen Abbey of which a bailiff in from now on Lichtensteig the high jurisdiction exercised.
The Reformation persisted until 1531, after which the village was completely re-Catholicized. In 1652 a chapel was built on the square in front of the "Hirschen" and was consecrated in 1672 to the Holy Family .
On August 30, 1764, Mühlrüti separated from the parish of Mosnang and became independent. The complicated legal structures, in which the Bishop of Constance had a say as the spiritual overlord, led to a long struggle for responsibilities before the parish was founded. The St. Gallen prince abbot Cölestin Gugger managed to reach an agreement. The shell of the church was built as early as 1763, followed by the consecration in 1766 in honor of St. Josef , St. Otmar and St. Theodul .
