The Segnespass ( 2625 m above sea level ) is an alpine pass that connects the Swiss cantons of Glarus and Graubünden .
geography
The Segnespass leads from Elm in the canton of Glarus to Flims in Graubünden and connects the Sernftal with the Vorderrheintal , at the top of the pass the watershed between Linth and Rhine runs.
Martinsloch is located south just before the pass (coming from Flims) . To the east of the pass is the striking Piz Segnas ( 3,099 m above sea level ). In the whole area you can see the striking thrust line of the Glarus Thrust , also known as the Tectonic Arena Sardona , a UNESCO World Heritage Site on all mountain flanks .
The pass has never had greater economic importance. Military shelter was built during the Second World War . This was civilly expanded in 2007 and is open for three months in the summer for snacks and as small accommodation.
Access
The ascent from Elm is very steep, and the chairlift up to the Nideren is a possible relief. The approach from Flims is less steep and longer. You can also use the train to Naraus or the route via Foppa / Grauberg: From Naraus, 1800 m , Höhenweg to Unteren Segnasboden, 2095 m . From Foppa 1420 m ascent to Startgels 1590 m and with the cable car to Grauberg 2240 m , from there descent to the lower Segnasboden and from there to 2106 meters merging with the path from Grauberg. Access to the Segnespass has deteriorated on the Flims side in the ascent of the last 100 meters as the former firn field melted away.
Plane crash
When the Junkers Ju 52 HB-HOT crashed on August 4, 2018 southeast of the pass, all 20 occupants (17 passengers and 3 crew members) died.
