The Furcletta (formerly Swiss German also: Chrüz ) is an alpine pass in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . With a peak height of 2573  m above sea level. M. connects Arosa in Schanfigg with Alvaneu and Schmitten GR in the Albula valley and via Culmet with Lenzerheide .

description

The Furcletta is located south of the Aroser Rothorn between the Tgapeala Cotschna and the Pizza Naira . Together with the latter, it marks the southwestern end of the Strela chain and the Welschtobel . A frequently used, marked hiking trail leads over the pass, which is located entirely in the Alvaneuer municipality . This also serves as access to the above-mentioned peaks, the Guggernellgrat and the Ramozhütte of the Swiss Alpine Club . From there, other paths than Alpine routes lead over the Erzhornsattel to Schafälpli and via Murterus-Leidluefurgga to Altein Tiefenberg (unmarked).

History and origin of name

The Furcletta, the name of which can be translated as "small mountain crossing, pass", has served the Rhaeto-Romanic Alvaneu farmers for many centuries as a transition to their alpine pastures on the Alp Ramoz in the upper Welschtobel. Even today, farm animals are herded to the top of Schanfigg on this route to summer pastures . For the Walsers who have settled in Arosa since the beginning of the 14th century , the mule track was of less importance than the Carmenna , the Maienfelder Furgga or Hörnligrat and Urdenfürggli for ecclesiastical, political and economic reasons . This was even more true since the sale of the (lower) Welschtobel to Alvaneu in 1481. The name "Chrüz" used by the Arosians, which was also used for the transition between Pizza Naira and the summit 2807, refers to the Catholic Alvaneuern am pass created Wegkreuz back.

Tourist use

In 1889, the Arosa Kurverein had a well-developed hiking trail from the Isel over the outer and inner sandy soils of the Welschtobel via Schiliez to the Furcletta. This created a comfortable hiking connection into the Albula valley that everyone can walk on. The construction of the Ramozhütte in 1921 further increased the number of tourist visits on the Furcletta. From this shelter you can reach the transition in about an hour, with the path leading to the left over a flat ridge towards the valley slope, which it overcomes in a short, moderate climb southeast of the small Ramozsee (2483) (level of difficulty T2 ). From the top of the pass you have a good view of the striking north flanks of the Bergüner Stocks .

From the Furcletta, the path continues over the grassy slopes of the uppermost valley basin, first into the less pronounced high trough Tealf, where the variant branches off towards Culmet – Alp Sanaspans – Lenzerheide. The path continues on the left along the Bleis Paleusas to Alp da la Creusch and continues along the alpine path to via Aclas Seura to the Aclas d'Alvagni, the Alvaneuer Maiensässen . A direct descent variant leads from Tealf through the Val digl Guert to the Aclas Dafora ( T3 ). From there, a small road provides the connection to Alvaneu Dorf. A hike from Arosa to Alvaneu should take about six hours, and about a quarter of an hour more in the opposite direction.

In addition to hikers, mountain bikers in particular use the transition today, mostly from the Alvaneuer side for the sake of simplicity. It is also committed in winter, although there is often a risk of avalanches, especially on the south side. Plans to build a road tunnel connecting Arosa and Alvaneu under the Furcletta were not carried out.
