The Ramozhütte is an alpine refuge in the plural Alps in Graubünden ( Switzerland ). It is located at the foot of the Erzhorn on the foothills of its SE ridge in the Welschtobel / Alp Ramoz above Arosa at an altitude of 2293  m above sea level. M. The hut is owned by the Arosa section of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC).

The Ramozhütte, located in the area of the municipality of Albula / Alvra (until 2014 Alvaneu ), serves, among other things, as a base for climbing the mountain range around the Aroser Rothorn and the area of the southwestern Strela chain . The name Ramoz is derived from the Latin “trimodiu” (mill funnel), because of the shape of the terrain that narrows at the bottom.

Ascent

The usual ascent to the Ramozhütte starts in the Isel below Arosa. From there you can get to your destination in about 2 to 2 ½ hours through the long Welschtobel. The hut can be reached from Innerarosa on the blue and white mountain hiking trail in around four hours over the Erzhornsattel ( 2744  m ). The ascent from Alvaneu leads over the Furcletta and takes 4½ hours. The most interesting scenic access to Alp Ramoz is that from Altein Tiefenberg via Leidfluefurgga-Murterus.

Historical

Alp Ramoz with Ramozhütte, Murterus in the back

As early as February 1893, the Rätia section of the SAC submitted an application to the Arosa Kurverein (now Arosa Tourismus) for a subsidy for an Alpine club hut in the Welschtobel, at the foot of the Rothorn. Although CHF 500.00 was apparently granted immediately and another CHF 300.00 was to be raised in another way, the hut could not be built as planned in 1895 for unknown reasons.

In 1911, the Alvaneu local council suggested that the existing shepherd's hut on Alp Ramoz be converted into a tourist accommodation and, for this purpose, also asked for a contribution from the Kurverein Arosa. He welcomed the project in principle and requested a sketch and estimate for inspection, but the project was not carried out for the time being.

It was not until 1921 that the Arosa hunting club took up the idea again. He created a project for a construction on the shepherd's hut. In order to secure the financing, the association successfully applied for a contribution of CHF 1000 from the Arosa Ski Club and granted it the right of co-ownership in return. After a thorough examination, the two associations agreed to build a new building with 17 beds in the immediate vicinity instead of converting the shepherd's hut, which was built in 1921. The work was in forced labor created by members of the Ski Club, the hunters association as well as the gymnastics club Arosa. The wood from a house in the Prätschwald near Langwies was used . The SAC also contributed to the costs with CHF 500. In 1924 the ski club took over the hut as sole property and expanded it further in 1931.

In March 1945, the old Ramozhütte, now owned by the SAC, was destroyed by an avalanche from the Guggernell ridge . The enormous air pressure of the avalanche carried the attic and the mattresses into the nearby Welschtobel. The SAC then decided to build a completely new building with 32 places in an avalanche-proof location in a slightly elevated position on the other side of the stream in the same year for CHF 52,000. The foundation walls of the destroyed old building next to the mountain hiking trail are still there today.

In the summer of 2005, the Ramozhütte was extensively renovated by members of the SAC. The building records between 500 and 600 overnight stays annually, the majority of which falls during the summer season.
