The AgustaWestland AW169 is a ten-seat, twin-engine , turbine -powered helicopter . It was developed by the Italian company AgustaWestland , which was merged into Leonardo SpA in 2016 .
history
In 2008 AgustaWestland spoke publicly about a new helicopter under the project name XX9 at the Farnborough International Airshow . The AW169 was presented to the public on July 19, 2010 at the 47th Farnborough International Airshow and is seen as a competitor to the Eurocopter EC 145 and the Eurocopter Dauphin . AgustaWestland has forecast sales of up to 1,000 units of this helicopter by 2030. The approval for the 4.5-ton helicopter is based on CS-29 , and commissioning is not expected to begin before 2014. The first flight took place on May 10, 2012 at the AgustaWestland base in Cascina Costa near Samarate . A prototype was added to the test fleet in July and November 2012. The fourth prototype had its maiden flight in Cascina Costa on January 31, 2013. By the end of 2012, 70 orders had been placed for the new type of helicopter. Production has started and the first delivery was originally supposed to take place in the 2nd quarter of 2014. The helicopter was approved by EASA on July 15, 2015.
The Gendarmería Nacional Argentina appears as the first police customer, which receives the first AW169 in 2017.
Accidents
Five people were killed in a crash near King Power Stadium in Leicester , UK, on October 27, 2018 , including Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha . He was the owner of the Thai company King Power , the English soccer club Leicester City and the Belgian soccer club Oud-Heverlee Löwen .

The cockpit is equipped with three active matrix displays , a flight management system , wide area augmentation system and ACAS from Rockwell Collins . Two Pratt & Whitney PW210s with FADEC , a fully digital engine controller, serve as the drive .
