List of total losses of the Boeing 747
The list of total losses of the Boeing 747 includes total losses of machines of the various series of the Boeing 747 .
From the start of commercial use in January 1970 to November 2018, a total of 63 Boeing 747s were classified as “damaged beyond repair” and thus written off as total losses. In detail these were:
- 13 machines of the type 747-100
- 2 machines of the type 747 SP
- 29 machines of the type 747-200
- 7 machines of the type 747-300
- 12 machines of the type 747-400.
A total of 3846 people were killed in these events, 583 of them alone in the plane disaster in Tenerife in March 1977, in which two 747s collided on the ground. In contrast, there were no deaths in 34 of the 62 incidents. The 747-100 to -300 have a loss rate of 2.85 machines per million flights; for the 747-400 the number is 0.86 total losses per million flights.
The following table lists all incidents resulting in total losses.
