history

A CASA C-212 of the Murray Aviation in 1994th

Murray Aviation was founded in October 1985 by the brothers Preston and Mark Murray in Ypsilanti ( Michigan ) and began operations in December 1986 from Willow Run Airport with an FAA approval according to FAR-135 as an air taxi company . The company initially used Mitsubishi MU-2 machines and then Learjets in business aviation for the automotive industry. The first CASA C-212 cargo aircraft added to the fleet in 1993. In addition to regional flight operations, Murray Aviation specialized in converting passenger planes into freighters at the end of the 1990s and offered corresponding conversions for British Aerospace Jetstream and Beechcraft King Air .

In 1992 Preston and Mark Murray founded a second company, Murray Air , which was initially just a pure holding company and owner of the aircraft used by Murray Aviation . In spring 2000 they applied for FAR-125 approval for this company, which allowed it to operate larger aircraft than its sister company in domestic traffic. Murray Air began operations in October 2000 with two Douglas DC-8-63Fs that were used in just-in-time freight transport for automotive manufacturers and suppliers within the USA. In November 2004, the company received FAR-121 approval, which made global cargo flights possible. Murray Air then carried out cargo charter services to destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean as well as military contract flights for the US armed forces.

The two sister companies Murray Air and Murray Aviation merged on April 1, 2005 under the Air Operator Certificate and the Murray Air brand . The first Douglas DC-8-71F was taken over in the same month. In addition to freight operations, in 2005 the company transported around 10,000 employees in the automotive industry on business flights to Kokomo , Rockford , St. Louis , Wilmington and Toronto ( Canada ), for the DaimlerChrysler company also according to fixed route plans.

National Airlines has been using Boeing 757-200 on passenger flights since 2011 .

Murray Air was bought in November 2006 by entrepreneur Christopher J. Alf, the sole owner of National Air Cargo , which was founded on October 14, 1991 . This New York- based logistics company specializes in brokering military and civil freight orders and has offices around the world. After the takeover, Murray Air continued flight operations as a subsidiary of National Air Cargo under its previous name. Since October 2007, the company has been using the National Airlines brand name for its external appearance.

At the end of 2009, National Airlines ceased business flights for the automotive industry and at the same time withdrew their three British Aerospace Jetstreams used for this purpose. The first Boeing 747-400BCF entered service on September 9, 2010 on a cargo flight from Frankfurt via Kuwait City and Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan to Hong Kong . From October 2010, the company used three of these wide-body aircraft , which were initially operated by Air Atlanta Icelandic under wet lease . After National Airlines received FAA certification for this type on April 27, 2011, the Boeing 747s were purchased and registered in the United States. The company took delivery of its first Boeing 757-200 passenger aircraft in early 2011 . The machine was used for one year to transport military personnel between Dubai , Bagram Airbase, Kandahar and Kabul before commencing civil charter flights . In January 2013, National Airlines relocated their headquarters and operational base from Ypsilanti to Orlando , Florida . Scheduled passenger flights have been offered since December 2015.

Destinations

National Airlines has been offering scheduled passenger flights from Orlando to San Juan in Puerto Rico since December 16, 2015 and to Windsor, Canada, since December 17, 2015 . A scheduled connection from Orlando to St. John's International Airport on Newfoundland, Canada was established in January 2016.

In addition, the company transports passengers and cargo on global charter flights for the US Army, among others.
