Star Marianas Air is an American regional airline based in Tinian in the Northern Marianas and based at Tinian Airport .

history

Star Marianas Air was founded in 2008 and was approved by the FAA on April 1, 2009 to operate in the Northern Mariana Islands . The first flight took place on April 2, 2009. It was a charter connection between the islands of Tinian and Saipan with a Piper PA-32 .

In 2010, three more Piper PA-32s were purchased, doubling the fleet from three to six aircraft. In 2013, the first of five Piper PA-31s was acquired and charter flights to the islands of Rota and Guam began.

In June 2014, the airline received approval from the FAA and the United States Department of Transportation to operate scheduled flights from Saipan Airport to Rota and Tinian Airports . Previously there were only charter flight connections.

In 2016 the fleet was expanded again to seven Piper PA-32s and five Piper PA-31s. In addition, an average of 200 flights a day have been carried out since then.

Incidents

On October 6, 2013, a Piper PA-32-300 had an accident , killing three people and injuring four.
