PSA Airlines is an American regional airline based in Vandalia . It is a subsidiary of American Airlines and flies for them under the American Eagle umbrella brand . Their home base is Dayton International Airport with additional crew bases in Knoxville , Charlotte and Green .
history
PSA Airlines was founded in 1979 by Vee Neal Frey as Vee Neal Airlines , based in Latrobe , Pennsylvania . Scheduled flight operations began on May 1, 1980 with a Cessna 402 between Latrobe and Pittsburgh .
In December 1983, the company was renamed Jetstream International Airlines , or JLA for short , after two Handley Page Jetstreams had been flown in shortly before . In 1984 the company moved from Latrobe to Erie .
On September 26, 1985, Jetstream International Airlines merged with Piedmont Airlines , on August 1, 1986 it was fully taken over and became their subsidiary. Following the takeover of Piedmont Airlines by what was then USAir - later US Airways - in November 1987, JLA flew as Allegheny Commuter (Allegheny was the former name of USAir) from the USAir hub in Philadelphia . On July 1, 1988, JLA was fully taken over by USAir and has since been flying under the colors of USAir Express , later US Airways Express .
On November 1, 1995, JLA was renamed from US Airways to PSA Airlines to protect its trademark rights for the former Pacific Southwest Airlines . Pacific Southwest was a major airline on the west coast of the United States before it was acquired by USAir.
As a result of the merger of US Airways and American Airlines , PSA Airlines took ownership of this company in 2013. PSA Airlines is operating today for American Eagle .
Destinations
PSA Airlines operates regional and feeder flights for American Airlines under the American Eagle umbrella brand from their hubs to numerous larger and, above all, smaller airports in the USA. In addition to this task, PSA Airlines operates some ground stations in the east of the USA under its own responsibility.
