history
Foundation and first years
American Eagle Airlines started out as a group of regional airlines operating under contract for American Eagle .
On May 15, 1998 , the regional airlines Simmons Airlines and Flagship Airlines merged , which American Airlines had previously bought and which operated as American Eagle for American Airlines since 1984 . The newly created airline was American Eagle Airlines, which also adopted the IATA code MQ from Simmons Airlines.
American Airlines bankruptcy
As of 2011, during American's bankruptcy , there were plans (now discarded) that AMR Corporation had targeted a sale of American Eagle Airlines. On January 14, 2014, American Eagle Airlines was renamed Envoy (in German about envoy ). US Airways , which merged with American Airlines in 2013 , had named its business class as Envoy Class and its airport lounges as Envoy Lounge from 1997 . Envoy is American Eagle's largest regional airline by number of aircraft .
