ExpressJet Airlines is a US regional airline based in College Park, Georgia that operates its fleet primarily on behalf of other major airlines.
history
ExpressJet was founded in 1986 and began flight operations in 1987. The origins were some small feeder companies, such as Bar Harbor Airlines, Provinceton-Boston Airlines, Rocky Mountain Air, Britt Air, Houston's Royale Airways, Denver's Pioneer and Honolulu Mid Pacific Air, which were gradually bought up by Continental Airlines and under the name Continental Express as a feeder to the Continental hubs . ExpressJet originally flew under the license of Britt Airways.
In April 2002 ExpressJet went public under the name ExpressJet Holdings, Inc. and became an independent company. The holding company also owns American Composites LLC, Saltillo Jet Center, and InTech Aerospace Service. ExpressJet Services, LLC offers maintenance, repair and overhaul services for various types of aircraft.
When Continental wanted to significantly reduce its Continental Express services in December 2005 , the airline decided to fly on its own. On December 31, 2006, ExpressJet began chartered six aircraft . In April 2007, the offer was expanded to 24 cities on the West Coast, the Southwest and the Midwest of the United States.
In July 2008, ExpressJet announced the discontinuation of all airlines on September 2, 2008. The agreement with Delta Airlines has also been terminated. The aircraft used for this purpose are returned to the lessor. In future, Continental Airlines would only fly as Continental Express with a fleet of 205 aircraft and head for 150 destinations. ExpressJet Corporate Charter had 30 planes available for charter flights .
On October 1, 2010, UAL Corporation and Continental Airlines merged to form United Continental Holdings . As a result of the merger, the regional partner of Continental Airlines, Continental Connection, also became a partner of United Express . ExpressJet is now a partner of United Express.
In November 2010, Atlantic Southeast Airlines took over all shares in the company. 1 January 2012 the two companies merged under the umbrella of ExpressJet, which by a subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc. was.
In August 2017, Delta Air Lines ended its cooperation with the company. At the same time, 31 Bombardier CRJ900s , funded by Delta Airlines and operated by ExpressJet Airlines, were transferred to Endeavor Air .
On August 24, 2020 it was announced that ExpressJet will cease all activities on September 30, 2020.
Destinations
ExpressJet uses its aircraft on regional and feeder flights under the umbrella brands United Express for United Airlines and American Eagle for American Airlines, connecting numerous destinations within North America.
